Human Support Services
Is there
a list of people with intellectual disabilities who are waiting to be accepted for
employment at Versatech Industries Inc.?
Versatech does not maintain a waiting list. All
potential candidates are approved for funding by Family Services and Housing Manitoba.
How are people with intellectual disabilities
selected for employment at Versatech Industries Inc.?
Persons with intellectual disabilities
apply for a position at Versatech in the same manner as employees of Versatech. Typically,
an individual meets with the Manager of Human Support Services prior to making
an application to discuss his/her expectations and hopes, to tour Versatech's facilities,
to meet some of the people working there, and to make a personal decision as to whether or
not he/she would like to work at Versatech. If Versatech looks like it would be a suitable
place for the individual then the person would make an application to Versatech and seek
funding and Workers Compensation coverage from Family Services and Housing.
Do
Versatech's client workers (people with intellectual disabilities) get paid?
Versatech's client workers receive
payments based on productivity and quality of work produced. In addition,
client workers receive periodic production dividends, performance bonuses and year-end
bonuses. On an annual basis, Versatech Industries Inc. returns to our client workers
a minimum of 60% of the revenue they generated.
How does Versatech's supported employment service differ from other human
support services offered by the company?
This service differs from other human support
services (e.g. sheltered work) in that its clients are working at various locations in the
community away from Versatech's facilities.
The clients do not have a full time supervisor on site
but work semi-independently receiving training and support at their job sites from the
Supported Employment Coordinator.
The Coordinator visits each site on a regular basis to
ensure the standards for each job are maintained and to provide a liaison between the
employer and Versatech.
There
is a wide range of agencies partially funded by governments that provide services to
people with intellectual disabilities. How does Versatech fit into this range of
services?
Versatech is the largest provider of "day
programs" for people with intellectual disabilities in the Province of Manitoba. It
is also one of the oldest.
Versatech's Board of Directors and senior managers
believe that people with intellectual disabilities are best served when they have a wide
range of employment options and support services available to them.
